To create a platform for centralized tracking of molecular samples between the different European production sites.
The “Samply” system was created using Microsoft technologies, allowing access to the web application for shipment control and the use of PDAs in offline mode for pristine and radiation-free environments. Sending new requests for molecular samples, the phase of mitigation of delivery dates and scheduling of work are the components that help speed up laboratory testing and favor the monitoring of the samples themselves to reduce the costs incurred by the non-utilization of samples that are no longer usable. The timely management of the stock and the use of ad hoc algorithms facilitate the generation of forecasts on the future evolution of storage and availability for the planning of laboratory tests.

The automation of logistics management processes is a necessary objective for the optimization of the operators’ activities.
Using innovative technologies and taking into account the specificities of the terminal, the “CONTRAST” solution was designed to improve the management of container movements, track entries and exits and centralize the exchange of information between the equipment installed on the operating vehicles on the apron. The design focused on the points to be considered in the design of the GRUs, the layout of the terminal and the improvement of the processes.
The immediate benefits are the elimination of ‘parasitic’ crane movements (familiar to operators in the industry), leading to significant savings in fuel costs, as well as mitigating the risk of accidents when moving containers and reducing staff costs for controlling containers on the yard.
The mix of web and mobile technologies in a dedicated intranet with secure access from attacks, the provision of tablets and industrial palmtops, and the development and installation of Wi-Fi devices enabled the company to meet and exceed the targets set.
